Poems – 24 Unrelated Images that Mean Nothing by George Wylesol
In September 2020 we interviewed Baltimore-based illustrator, educator and writer George Wylesol. He came out with a phrase that resonated with us, referring to his current work being ‘pointless’. So we have worked with George to bring you this new zine that presents twenty four unrelated images.
“Right now I’m making work that’s ‘pointless’. I don’t really have a better word to describe this feeling. Images that have no intentional meaning, purgatorial spaces, preoccupied figures. Not that the work itself is pointless, but is maybe exploring the indifference of the universe.”
Many of our projects start like this, a simple conversation or mention of a word or phrase that becomes and idea, and ends up as a project.
The zine recounts the daily walk George took during the pandemic down Route 40. Described as a loud, unpleasant walk, full of endless cards and Burger Kings, laundromats, gas stations, giant Walmarts and Minekes and Vape depots.
“It was great to be outside alone in the screaming American canyon.”
